What is it?

Configuring Bits is a running log of practical technology work. Days and nights working on, and playing with, technology to solve problems. Problems of which some are my own making.

I focus on system configuration, software integrations, network configuration and troubleshooting, automation and workflow optimizations, and debugging issues across platforms.

I make sure tools, systems, and services all work together efficiently.

That means I’m cleaning up messy environments, writing scripts to solve problems, tweaking configs, reverse-engineering errors, and connecting APIs. I’m the guy who is reading through logs, automating the repetitive tasks, and just generally making things work and trying to keep them that way.

What’s with the name?

I liked it. “Configuring Bits” has two different interpretations depending on how I think about it. I’m always configuring bits of things like hardware configurations, software configurations, interconnecting different systems, and lots of other things. The other interpretation I have is in relation to automation where the bits themselves can configure into arrangements to do work. So, the double meaning kind of works.
